Martin Oei (1996) regularly gives piano recitals in The Netherlands. Since 2008, he won many prizes at competitions like Steinway and Sons piano competition, the Princess Christina Competition, Young Pianist Foundation and Oosterpoort Klassiek. He performed several times at the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam, the Janine Jansen Chamber Music Festival, and the Zeeuws Festival. He recorded his first CD when he was 14 and presented it on the radio at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam.
At the beginning of 2012 the TV program De Wereld Draait Door (The World Keeps Turning) invited Martin to play for Joop van den Ende and his guests at the celebration of his 70th birthday for 1.3 million viewers. Martin will record his second CD in the summer of 2012. It will contain the first recording ever of the Beethoven Fantasy from 1792, which musicologist Cees Nieuwenhuizen this year reconstructed. The world première at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam will be held on October 21. Afterwards he starts a tour with the première program in The Netherlands. He will also contribute to a CD with the work of the 92-year-old musicologist Nancy van der Elst, which will be presented in the autumn of 2012.
Martin started playing the piano when he was 9; a year later the Young Musicians Academy of Fontys Conservatory granted him admission. He takes lessons from Ms Jelena Bazova. Martin is fascinated by historical instruments and regularly performs on fortepiano’s and Erard grands from the 19th century.
